Enclosure

 

Early thoughts and research on the topic of enclosure, led me to consider the entrapment of birds and the poem by Maya Angelou, ‘Caged Bird”. 

 

I wanted to decorate the interior of a vessel to capture the essence of a trapped, beautiful creature. The wirework, reminiscent of a Victorian birdcage, complete the pieces and raises the question, ‘Is it a refuge or a prison?’
